Red Alert: Command & Conquer 3

Postby Seven » 05 Nov 2008, 00:37

Taze and I bought this..and yes, it's very fun. Be warned, there was a misprint in some of the manuals and my registration code was missing ONE stupid letter/number. It's a known issue, and you can guess it if you are desperate enough (like me) otherwise they'll send you a new one after a nice dog and pony show. But that aside, you can co-op with the computer or other players. We have it for PC since we are w/o XBOX *cry* Anyway, they have a nice friends system/online thingie if you want to play with us...you can join in. There are Soviets, Allies, and the Empire of the Rising Sun. Run by none other than Sulu himself *lol*

Well I got this game for christmas. It has the same copy protection that Spore had...which sucks ass. Here's the notes on the copy protection:

(!empty($user->lang['CODE'])) ? $user->lang['CODE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'CODE')))(!empty($user->lang['COLON'])) ? $user->lang['COLON'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'COLON'))) (!empty($user->lang['SELECT_ALL_CODE'])) ? $user->lang['SELECT_ALL_CODE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'SELECT_ALL_CODE')))

Copy Protection
==================================================================

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 uses SecuROM copy protection, along with
Digital Rights Management (DRM). Below are some facts regarding the DRM
in Command & Conquer Red Alert 3:

  1. We will authenticate your game online when you install and launch
     it the first time.
  2. We will never re-authenticate an installation after the first
     launch. There is no reaching out to a central server post-install
     to see if you're "allowed" to play.
  3. You will be able to install and play on up to five computers.
  4. You are not required to have the Command & Conquer Red Alert 3
     game disc in your computer to play.

In the case that you install the game five times, EA Customer Service
will be on hand to supply additional authorizations that are warranted.
This will be done on a case-by-case basis through contacting
customer support.

While I absolutely love the Franchise of games represented here, I cannot bring myself to allow such virulent software to plague my computer. Even if I do steal software, I don't like that it assumes I'm doing that from the beginning :P

After playing it with my Dad this x-mas, it turns out that you *can't* play the co-op mode with one key.

After playing Easy, Medium, and Hard computer opponents in the regular death-match style multiplier...I'm thoroughly convinced this game is just a rehash. Game mechanics/unit types/super weapons/super powers are all very familar to previous CnC games. The game plays just like the others. I was very disappointed in this title...and PC gaming in general this Xmas.

Wii (Rock Band, Rayman 3) and Board Games (Dominion, Agricola, Caylus) all out shined this game.
